First President Of The Watchtower Society
by William Penwell ini was reading on wikipedia about the watchtower society and it lists a william henry conley as the first president of the wt society (1881-1884).
i was wonder if this is correct and why the modern jw's have eliminated him from the societies history?
the only thing is the society was not incorporated till 1884 with russel as president.

Yes it is interesting to find out this information. Seems like it is part of the Watchtowers history the organization for whatever reason, wants to keep hush hush. Some time ago I read up on the Dawn Bible Students Association and the International Bible Students Association. By their history, they are the ones that follow closer the teachings of Charles T Russell. Like someone mentioned on here once that Russell would now be DF'd by the Watchtower for some of his teachings. -

Cognitive Dissonance
by LexIsFree inthe cognitive dissonance amongst jws has never been more obvious to me then what i just experience in the last 5 min.
long story short i had a phone conversation w/my mom about some things and i mentioned to her to look up what has been going on with their beloved organization in australia.
brother geoffrey jackson of the holy governing body was caught lying numerous times about several subjects including disassociations & shunning.

I have experience this first hand. A JW relatives recollection of events can be a lot different than reality. -

Pretty soon the Borg will be after them for the other $5,000.
You know it will only be a matter of time they will be guilted into sending them the rest.

I recall in the 70's there was one brother that would put up with a bit of resistance to these "democratic" votes to sending money to the mother organization. Looking back he had a valid argument, that the congregation should hang on to some of the money as a rainy day fund. I recall one elder making some comment that he was not a very good brother, how he didn't have faith and should be relying on Jehober. I am sure glad I am out of that cult. -

They've gutted the only remaining positive happy past time of book studies in private homes (with "goody nights" once month).
I remember when the District and Circuit conventions were fun because of the food service and volunteering for the food service. It actually broke up the monotonous talks. Now you don't even have that to look forward to, just 4 to 5 hours of boring talks a day that everyone is falling asleep to.

I tried attending about 15-20 years ago but what I found it was the same tired old message, the end is very short brothers and sisters, these are urgent times. The same BS i heard 40 years ago. The last time I attended was about 5 or 10 years ago because my elderly mother needed a ride to the memorial. Well sometimes you do things for loved ones you don't like. -

JW ended a relationship with me
by V1922 inmy jw boyfriend just ended a year and a half relationship with me.
it came out the blue and i'm deeply hurt by this because we were so compatible.
he did it right before the big annual gathering he is presently attending.

"We were so compatible."
Unless you are willing to convert to his religion it will never work. My experience is that a persons belief is very important and if you don't share that with the other person or they accept you for who you are it will never work.

Rejecting something due to unscriptural or pagan origins.....?
by stuckinarut2 inso witnesses reject many practices or holidays due to their "unscriptural or pagan" origins.. for example, birthday celebrations, mothers or father's day, christmas etc..... most people in the world will say "but the origin doesn't matter anymore, we follow this custom now because it's a joyful occasion that creates happy times and brings the family together".
it is still firmly rejected.. so, if the wrong origin is so important, and should result in rejecting something, why isn't the same principle applied to the actual jehovah's witness faith itself!?.
after all, the very foundation of the organisation was based on wrong understandings of the bible, far fetched teachings and doctrines, links to false religious backgrounds, pyramidology, false predictions, inaccurate beliefs etc...... using their reasoning, it doesn't matter how good something is now, if the origin was faulty to begin with?

My town bought an old catholic church in the 1960's for K.H. use. No one seemed to have a problem with it at the time. In the 1970's it was even too small for the 100 plus who attended so they tore it down and built a K.H.
I recall as a kid one KH that was an old church. You could tell it was an old church by the style of it. Not sure if is still a KH as I think the building is still there. They probably sold it to buy a bigger piece of land. Your right I can't see them doing that now a days.

The non practicing of "worldly" holidays has nothing to do with right or wrong. As a cult it is all about separating us from the world, making the members feel different from everyone else. It is to do with mind control. Read any book on cults and it will explain this. I remember growing up feeling I did not fit into society and this was deliberate.
